The Beauty of Samadhi
Buddhist Arts Exhibition
Hong Kong Cultural Centre
9-11 May 2025

”The mind is like an artist, capable of painting all worlds; the five aggregates arise from it, and there is nothing that is not created.“ — Avatamsaka Sutra
Venerable Master Hsing Yu once mentioned that this wisdom from the Avatamsaka Sutra profoundly reminds us that the mind, like an artist, creates diverse landscapes of life through each thought. When the heart is filled with good intentions, life will manifest beautiful images of harmony and joy.
The purpose of Buddhist art has evolved continuously since the time of early Buddhism. During the early period, Buddhist disciples focused on cultivation and did not encourage artistic creation. However, about two hundred years after the Buddha‘s nirvana, followers gradually found it difficult to directly perceive the spiritual power of the Buddha. In this context, Buddhists began to create representational art to express their reverence for the Buddha.
The upcoming exhibition, The Beauty of Samadhi, will delve into various forms of Buddhist arts, showcasing their meaning and history, allowing visitors to experience the diversity and depth of Buddhist arts. Additionally, the exhibition features interactive workshops, enabling participants to personally engage in the creation process of various Buddhist artworks and gain a deeper understanding of the original intentions and purposes behind Buddhist arts.
